HOLLY PITTMAN


Holly Pittman is Professor of the Art and Archaeology of Mesopotamia and Iran at the Department of History of Art of the University of Pennsylvania, and Director of the Lagash Archaeological Project (Ancient Lagash. Current Research and Future Trajectories. Proceedings of the Workshop held at the 10th ICAANE in Vienna, April 2016, OREA 2022). She is also Curator in the Near East Section of the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology. Holly Pittman has excavated in Cyprus, Turkey, Syria, Iraq and Iran and has had primary publication responsibilities of the art and especially the glyptic. She is particularly interested in how the glyptic art of seals and seal impressions functioned during the 3rd millennium BC in Early Bronze Age administrative systems (The Glazed Steatite Glyptic Style: The Structure and Function of an Image System in the Administration of Protoliterate Mesopotamia, Dietrich Reimer Verlag, 1994).
